There’s Still Time to Join Us in November!

Dear Friends:

I am writing to encourage you to register and attend our upcoming Advanced Sex Therapy:  Trauma and Abuse Course, November 8-10, 2024 live in Dallas, Texas and live online.  This course is offered every two years and is updated completely each time it is taught.

I want to highlight the training and expertise of our Team Lead for this class:  Dr. Vanessa Snyder.

Dr. Snyder is an LMFT, LPC, Certified Sex Therapist, Master Traumatologist, and a Green Cross Certified Trainer. She is the Chief Clinical Officer for Uncaged, an international anti-trafficking organization.  She has conducted research since 2007 on complex trauma, including the treatment of children and adults in the commercial sex trafficking trade, both nationally and internationally.  She also trains organizations in organizational trauma, secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, and burnout – specifically for those who serve traumatized populations.

Dr. Snyder also has experience and training in EMDR, Trauma-Informed Hypnosis, Sex Offender Treatment, Internal Family Systems, Sex Addiction Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment, ARC, neurofeedback, and forensic interviewing.  She also has worked with individuals and couples in private practice who have experienced many varieties of trauma, including individuals with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

This course will also be taught and facilitated by Angela Landry, LMFT and CST, and Debra Taylor, LMFT and CST.  Angie has worked with trauma for over 11 years and is a Certified Brainspotting Therapist, Certified Complex Trauma Professional, and experienced EMDR clinician.  Debra has been working with and teaching about trauma for over 40 years.

Don’t miss the opportunity to join with other trauma colleagues and these faculty as we all update our knowledge and encourage each other in this work!

Prayerfully,

Dr. Debra Taylor,

Executive Director, SWI

AACC 2025 World Conference Proposals

The AACC (American Association of Christian Counselors) is inviting Conference Proposals for their 2025 “United” World Conference (September 23 - September 27, 2025). ISW and ABCST have a long history of coordinating and presenting in the AACC Sex Therapy track.

Cliff and Joyce Penner and Michael Sytsma (Track Leaders) and Mark Yarhouse, Debra Taylor, and Corey Gilbert (Track Coordinators) request break out session speaking proposals from the ABCST community. Choose something you care deeply about and know more about than a typical therapist.  If 2 of you would enjoy presenting together on a sexuality or sex therapy topic, that would be great – especially because the speaking slots are very limited. Please don’t be intimidated - grab a colleague, choose a topic, follow the guidelines, pray, and submit a quality proposal.

Dr. Mike offers some guidelines/resources for writing a proposal:

The track will be so much better if we all get involved!

Submissions Due November 1, 2024!
