Institute for Sexual Wholeness students study under some of the most respected experts in the nation. Each faculty member has expertise and experience in integrating a Biblical theology with sound clinical experience. Each works as a clinician seeing clients in their area of expertise. They are also authors, national speakers and mentors. Additionally, each has a pastoral heart in caring for both clients and students. We are proud to have such distinguished faculty.

Douglas Rosenau, Ed.D., is a Licensed Psychologist, Marriage & Family Therapist, and Diplomate of the American Board of Sexology (ABS). Another pioneer in Christian sex therapy, Doug is the best-selling author of A Celebration of Sex. He is a full clinical member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research (SSTAR), and he teaches Human Sexuality as an adjunct professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, Reformed Theological Seminary, and Richmont Graduate University.
Dr. Snyder is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in sexual trauma, complex trauma and dissociative disorders in Atlanta, Georgia. She is also the Academic Dean for the Institute for Sexual Wholeness as well as the Dean of Clinical Affairs for Richmont Graduate University. Dr. Snyder leads a research team on assessing trauma treatment for adolescent and adult women who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation. She is a trainer for the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology of which she is a Certified Traumatologist.
Michael Sytsma, Ph.D., is a Licensed Professional Counselor near Atlanta, Georgia. He is also an ordained Wesleyan minister, having served on pastoral staff for several years. He is President of Building Intimate Marriages, Inc.where he provides marriage and sex therapy and conducts marriage enrichment workshops and retreats throughout the United States. Michael's AAMFT approved Ph.D. focused on marital sexual therapy, especially sexual desire issues. He teaches Human Sexuality at several schools including Richmont Graduate University, Reformed Theological Seminary, and Asbury Theological Seminary.
Debra Taylor, M.A., is a Marriage & Family Therapist certified in sex therapy by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). She has taught Human Sexuality at Fuller Theological Seminary, Rosemead School of Psychology and Richmont Graduate University. She has also served on pastoral staff.
Debra is co-author of Secrets of Eve: Understanding the Mystery of Female Sexuality. She specializes in womenÍs issues including hormonal imbalance, infertility, body image, anorgasmia, and desire disorders.
James Childerston, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist specializing in a broad spectrum of psychological disciplines including individual and couples therapy, as well as medical and pharmacological consulting. His principal areas of expertise include problems associated with anxiety, depression, sexual dysfunction, sexuality and aging, and marital concerns. He is board certified in medical psychology, psychopharmacology, and sex therapy. He serves as the President of the Academy of Medical Psychology and of the American Board of Medical Psychology. He has co-authored A Celebration of Sex After 50 with his wife Carolyn and Doug Rosenau and Purity & Passion: Authentic Male Sexuality with Rick Ghent
Clifford Penner, Ph.D., and Joyce Penner, M.N., are internationally recognized sexual therapists, educators and authors. They work together as a team:
Clifford, a clinical psychologist, received a B.A. from Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, earned an M.A. in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, and holds a Ph.D. from Fuller's Graduate School of Psychology. Joyce - a registered nurse and clinical nurse specialist, holds a B.S. in nursing from the University of Washington. Her master's degree in psychosomatic nursing and nursing education is from UCLA.
Mark Laaser, Ph.D., authored the first book on sexual addiction in the Christian community as well as 7 other books and numerous articles. A popular international speaker, Dr. Laaser has created several treatment programs. In addition to his faculty role with the Institute for Sexual Wholeness, he is adjunct faculty at Fuller Theological Seminary and Dallas Theological Seminary. He and is wife, Debbie, lead Faithful and True Ministries whose mission is to help those affected by sexual addiction.
